Paleogene–Neogene tectonic evolution of the lignite-rich Szamotuły Graben

چکیده
The Szamotuly Graben covers the southernmost part of Permo-Mesozoic Poznan–Szamotuly Fault Zone. Along this regional discontinuity there are several salt structures, including diapir, over which an extensional graben formed in Paleogene and Neogene. is located north Poznan central-western Poland, NW–SE-trending, ~20 km long, 3–5.5 wide, up to 160 m deep. It filled with Lower Oligocene Neogene sediments, relatively thick lignite seams. Data from boreholes allow assignment graben-fill sediments appropriate lithostratigraphic units. Furthermore, analysis of changes thickness these units provides evidence for periods accelerated subsidence or uplift relative its flanks. As a result, two distinct stages tectonic subsidence one inversion the Paleogene–Neogene evolution have been distinguished. Thus, significant subsidence occurred Early middle Early–earliest Mid-Miocene, while slight inversion took place Mid-Miocene.

The eastern boundary of the Southern Cascades (Hat Creek Graben region), California, USA, is an extensively faulted volcanic corridor between the Cascade Range and Modoc Plateau. The morphology of the region is a result of plate motions associated with different tectonic provinces, faulting, and recurring volcanic activity, making it an ideal place to study the interrelationship between tectoni...
متن کاملKimberlites in a Karoo graben of Northern Mozambique: tectonic setting, mineralogy and Rb-Sr geochronology
Kimberlites occur as dykes up to 3 m thick and isometric bodies in the southern explored part of a NE-SW trending Karoo graben across the Mozambique Belt in northern Mozambique. The kimberlites are reported along four NW-SE-trending zones, and one ENE-WSW-trending zone. The kimberlites are macrocrystic hypabyssal Group Ia kimberlites based on their mineralogy and whole rock geochemistry. The ki...
متن کاملTectonic evolution of the terrestrial planets.
The style and evolution of tectonics on the terrestrial planets differ substantially. The style is related to the thickness of the lithosphere and to whether the lithosphere is divided into distinct, mobile plates that can be recycled into the mantle, as on Earth, or is a single spherical shell, as on the moon, Mars, and Mercury. The evolution of a planetary lithosphere and the development of p...
